Congratulations and best of luck to our wonderful Art teacher Ms.Anja Sammon who was invited to give a presentation about our previous CSPE / SPHE Global Citizenship/Emotional Wellbeing Projects at this year's annual "European Wool Day" in Rome on Sunday, the 6th of April.
The day is organised by the European Wool Exchange (EWE), a foundation which promotes and facilitates a European network of breeders, processors and end users who use wool in education, health and social sectors.
All talks were streamed live. Anja will talk about last year's "Fashion Future" and "Wool Makes Sense!", our current CMMG SONAS project.
This event is highly regarded, and the talk presented our school, and it's work to a European wide platform.
As background to this event, Anja's speech in front of a European audience is the culmination of projects including our 1st Year CSPE "Fashion Future" project which she organised last year. She brought the project to the Galway Wool Coop "Meitheal" on the 20th of July in Athenry where it was very well received, and a lot of visitors showed great interest in it.
As a result, Anja was invited to speak at the NUIG "Atlantic Futures North South Research Programme" to introduce our project to the "Pacesetters" consortium partners, who had been invited to the Galway Arts Festival, which is one of the Pacesetters "Real-World Laboratories" participants. Pacesetters is a research and innovation action funded under the Horizon Programme of the European Commission:
Consequently, we were also invited to exhibit again at Bunratty Castle on Sunday the 18h of August during Heritage Week, as part of the Irish Native Rare Breeds Society (INRBS) display. The Park offered a large range of heritage related activities on the day (and during the week from 17th - 25th of August).
Finally, we were invited to display at the "Fibershed" symposium in Dublin in November. Fibershed is a network of farmers, crafters, processors and designers which facilitates an Irish regenerative fibre system based on local fibre, local dyes, and local labour
Here a couple of Photographs of the project presented

Well done to our Senior Boys Volleyball team who have qualified for the All-Ireland A Cup final where they take on the challenge of current A League champions Douglas CS from Cork.
A brilliant semi-final performance against a very fancied Portlaoise team saw them emerge victorious on a score of 25 - 23 and 25 - 17

Coláiste Muire Máthair conducted a structured Easter programme that combined academic instruction with spiritual practice. The programme featured a Holy Week liturgical service, including a Stations of the Cross recitation by Leaving Certificate students Emma and Robert, musical accompaniment by Jasmine and Oskar, and a theological discourse on the symbolism of the Cross delivered by fifth year Michelle. First and second-year students from classes 1B, 2B, and 2C created visual displays for the school's front hall, reflecting their engagement with the Easter narrative. Ms. Hernon distributed Easter eggs as a gesture of appreciation for student participation. The school acknowledged Fr. Martin Whelan's contribution to the programme's facilitation.
History Week at CMMG!

During this week, our students have been diving into the past with exciting activities across all year groups!

5th Years kicked off their Research Study Report (RSR) with an inspiring talk from a guest speaker from the University of Galway

Junior & Senior students put their creativity to the test in our History Poster Competition

1st, 2nd & 3rd Years battled it out in a thrilling Kahoot quiz, testing their historical knowledge.

Treasure hunters have been solving riddles all week for a chance to win a Supermac’s voucher!

Meanwhile, CSPE classes have been exploring history, politics, and activism through film:

Hidden Figures – the story of three Black female scientists who changed NASA’s history.

Michael Collins – the foundation of the Irish Free State and the fight for independence.

Jojo Rabbit – an insightful look at propaganda in history.
A huge thank you to everyone who took part! Congratulations to all winners pictured here!
Huge Congratulations to our Junior Cycle Science Quiz teams who took part in the recent
Irish Science Teachers AssociationBoston Scientific Galway Quiz hosted by
ATU Galway City. We had four teams competing, with all of them doing brilliantly on the night. Our team of Alan Kania, Seamus Cuddy and Alex Bandieiev performed excellently, answering 71 out of their 80 questions correct to emerge as the winning team out of the 44 teams, representing sixteen city and county schools, who took part. This was the first time we have won this competition since 2017, an immense achievement for the lads. Close behind them in fourth place was our second team of Oisin Redmond, Lucy O'Connor and Yehor Popkov, who picked up a nice prize for their efforts, while our third team of Thomas Powell, Evan Wei and Aodhán Kenny also finished inside the top ten teams. Konrad Peyton, Matthew Putyianski and Martin Bilis made up our full squad, finishing well into the top half of the field. Each team gave up a substantial amount of their free time to prepare for this competition, and we are delighted that their hard work paid off.

Welcome to the April Edition of Coláiste Muire Matháir’s Neurodiversity Newsletter. This month we are focusing a little closer on Neurodiversity in girls in some sections. The feedback from our March Newsletter was so positive and very welcomed. We had so many excellent suggestions from families and we have tried to reflect the here. Keep the ideas coming!
