It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Week 10 exams out of the way and it's time to start the next stage of our year. However, Christmas is a busy busy time and also a time that we can show our compassion and empathy for those less well off than us. With that in mind we have organized plenty of charity events here in CMMG to do our bit to help.
Our annual Margadh na Nollag, organised by Ms. Patricia O'Donnell and Ms. Bernadine Ryan was another huge success. Practically everything sold out, especially the delights served up by the Home Economics department and Ms Liz Loftus! Big shout out to the TYs who worked really hard to make it all come together. Our wonderful choir regaled us with some festive favourites at the annual Christmas Carol Service arranged beautifully by Ms. Hannah Rhattigan. Thank you also to Fr. Martin Whelan for his lovely service. More photos here on our website through this link.
Mr. Healy and Mr. McCaul led the annual pilgrimage down to the University of Galway Physics labs for their practical morning, with great experimentation being had by all 43 students from 5th and 6th year who took part!
Our regular Games Room participants enjoyed a surprise Christmas treat when the returnable bottles were converted into Pizzas and sweets by their inspirational teachers Gael and Margaret!. The Games Room allows students to take part in many exciting games, including Connect 4, Draughts, Chess and many more each Thursday at 1pm in Room 1...and everyone is welcome!
Our Senior Volleyball team suffered their first defeat of the year when they went down narrowly to a very good St. Louis team from Kiltimagh in the All-Ireland final in Dublin. The boys had played brilliantly up to this stage, beating teams from Kilkenny, Dublin, Leitrim, Mayo and Cork on their trail-blazing path to the national final, but their luck deserted them at the final hurdle. It was a brilliant achievement to get to this stage in what is still a fledgling sport in CMMG. Well done to coaches Bartek Tatol and Ger Lennon, and all the squad
Good news, but also bad, for our wonderful U-16 Basketball team. Although they have succeeded in qualifying for the All-Ireland play-offs in January, they narrowly lost out to Charlestown in their Western Region Final at the start of the month. Despite dominating for long periods of time, and leading going into the last few seconds, they succumbed to a dying seconds basket to lose out by 2 points. Hopefully, they'll get a measure of revenge in January. Well done to all the coaches, Ms Rowena Kelly, Ms. Sharon Loughnane and Mr. Paul Langan, and the players on an excellent achievement getting this far.
