November...Halloween over but week 10 exams on the way! However, there's Science week and many other events to relieve the study stress! November also sees the launch of our new fundraising Lotto, and we urge anyone who can to sign up. All funds received will go towards facilities to help our students have the most educational and enjoyable time they can while in CMM. The link to join is here, or though the QR code. Great turn out to the first after school badminton session...plenty of interest!!

Michael Moynihan TD, Minister of State for Special Education and Inclusion, accompanied by John Connolly TD, paid a visit to us recently. We were able to showcase and discuss all we do for children with additional needs and what an inclusive space we are.

Our Vex Robotics club, sponsored by Aerogen and under the guidance of their teachers Ms. Phillips and Ms. Hession, headed to ATU for their first 'scrimmage' recently. They practiced their driving and competition skills against other schools and teams from ATU engineering courses in 2nd and 3rd year. They came away from the day with an impressive score line, and having only lost one of their battles. Best of luck to them in their competition in January where they will battle for a spot in the National Final in Cork. The videos here show the expert design and programming they have developed.

Well done to our Student Council who held their first fundraiser of the year - ‘a non-uniform day’ to raise funds for their Student Council activities. They are currently fundraising towards bottle filling stations. We raised an amazing €350. Thank you all for your generous contributions.
Pictured are our Leaving Certificate Student Council members and Prefects Julia, Ana, Mya & Phebean.
Our Senior Science Quiz team unfortunately lost out on a place in the All Ireland final following a narrow defeat in a play off, a fate suffered by last year's team as well. Our first team of Ali,Moeen and Rahul led the competition going into the final round, before eventually finishing joint third, and facing the dreaded play off for the final spot. Nevertheless, it was a super performance from all our teams, finishing 3rd, 6th and 7th teams out of what is effectively the brightest young science minds from schools all across Galway City and County.
Thank you to Dr. Michel Dugon, aka the 'Bug Doctor', for once more regaling us with his fascinating background to and knowledge about the fascinating animals he studies. This year it was the turn of our second year cohort to experience that (maybe) once in a lifetime chance to hold a python a tarantula or a scorpion as part of our science week activities programme.

Some good news from the
SciFest National finals as one of our projects took the
Irish Science Teachers Association national award. Second year student Muhammed Ashir Anwar impressed the judges with his project 'Neurosync: AI support of cognitive and neurological care', which he has developed under the mentorship of his teacher Ms. Caoimhe Dowling, and which was entered in the
Boston Scientific Medical Devices category.
Our second project at the finals, entered in the
EirGrid Cleaner Climate category, 'Biovolt: The moss power revolution-harnessing nature's soft power for a sustainable future', investigated the use of moss to generate power and was presented by second year students Liya Walsh and Crystal Quinn under the guidance of their teacher Ms. Sinéad Phillips.

Well done to our U19A Boys basketballers are through to the west Region quarter final against Calasanctius College after defeating St Jarlath's Tuam 67-51. Meanwhile, we also had success for both our U16s and U19s girl's teams as they both won their games against local rivals, Merlin College. The U19s have now topped their pool and go on to play Mercy Roscommon in their Regional Quarter final. The U16s took second place in their pool and go to Tuam next week to play High Cross in their Regional Quarter Final. Best of luck to both squads

We were delighted to welcome Magda Matysik to tell us her story and help our Leaving Certificate class understand about the valuable work being done, and career opportunities available, at Medtronic. Thank you so much for volunteering to enhance our Science Week activities, and increasing our knowledge of the developments in stent and pacemaker technology. Well done to our head girl Julia for helping out by demonstrating the PPE outfit!

Each November, we honour the memory of the loved ones we have lost by adding their names to our Remembrance Tree, creating a powerful and visible tribute to the deceased members of our families. Our community gathers to pray for them specifically during our special November Remembrance Mass. This year, we also broadened our perspective by learning about the rich and vibrant traditions of Día de los Muertos, gaining a deeper appreciation for the diverse ways cultures commemorate and celebrate the lives of those who have passed away. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen

We would like to thank The Shona Project for sending handbooks for all of our 1st Year girls.
The Shona Project promotes kindness, confidence and courage, values that we aim to encourage every day in Coláiste Muire Máthair. The handbooks include helpful advice and inspiring stories that support our students as they grow and learn.
We are very grateful for this generous support

Thank you to everyone who helped out with the
Medtronic sponsored Galway Primary School Science Quiz during Science Week. The quiz is held to honour the memory of our former colleague Fr. Seán Manning and has become a regular feature of the wonderful
Galway Science & Technology Festival drawing teams from all across the county. This year's event was another tight one, with Craughwell NS just defeating near neighbours Kileeneen NS on a tense tie break. In third place was
Knocknacarra Educate Together National School with Tullokyne NS taking the last set of prizes. There were also many spot prizes on offer, while the elevated sugar levels from the sweets supplied were well hydrated by water sponsored by Clada group.
Thank you to all our sponsors, to the teachers and guardians who accompanied their students, and to our wonderful group of
CMM Galway Student helpers and teachers who helped out greatly to ensure things ran so smoothly
Been a while since the old weights room/gym under the church has seen action so it was brilliant to see a clean up crew of students, and Mr.Byrne and Mr. Fitzmaurice, get to grips with sorting it out. Won't be long now until it's up and running once more

As you can imagine much of what we have down there goes back many years so If anyone out there has any gym equipment lying about that they'd be willing to donate to help us out we'd be glad to have it up and running again

Well done to our LCA class, and Mr. Hall in the PE department, who organised a brilliant second year 5-a-side tournament. Great fun was had by all in a welcome break from the classroom!
The weather stayed fine for everyone as some of our 5th year RE students enjoyed their trip to historic Newgrange in Co. Meath, followed by a visit to the shrine of St. Oliver Plunkett at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Drogheda.
The
CMM Galway U19 ladies continued their winning streak in basketball with a solid performance, taking a convincing win over Presentation College Headford. This result is all down to the hard work and dedication shown by this U19's team, who started this season off a few weeks ago with a win against St Enda's. Next up were Merlin College who we also defeated to finish top of our group and into the Western Region play offs. In a great day out our U-16 team also defeated Merlin to qualify for the play-offs. Meanwhile, our U-19 boys team also progressed to the Western region quarter final following a victory over St. Jarlath's College
A huge well done to all of our volunteer students and teachers who displayed our
CMM Galway stand with such enthusiasm at the
Galway Science & Technology Festival in a packed
University of Galway today. The theme for Science Week this year is 'Then. Now. Tomorrow' and we displayed many items relating to the past, present and future to hundreds of members of the public. Most popular of all was our Vex Robotics team who demonstrated their hard work brilliantly, although our OHP did provide a few 'what is that?' moments too! We now look forward with enthusiasm to another fun filled and packed
Science Week Ireland
Three of our students, Lucy, Lillian and Oisín, along with their teacher Ms. Anja Sammon, were invited to attend the First Connacht Youth Climate Assembly at Galway University. More than 100 students and climate professionals from the Connacht region enjoyed a full day of talks and presentations, activities and networking opportunities to discuss their ideas and make a positive change. Well done everyone for excellently representing
CMM Galway
Our Comhairle na Óg group paid a visit to City hall where they met with Jim O'Callaghan TD, and City officials, to discuss their Safety Survey report
