October as usual kicks off with our Open Evening, where we throw ope the doors of our school to prospective students. Our students, teachers and support staff engage fully to make it an enjoyable and informative evening for the many visitors we get, and hopefully do enough to show them that our school is where opportunities abound and dreams can be realised! Meanwhile, school life goes on. Loads of activities take place in October, teams get their first outing in Purple and Black, competition deadlines loom and preparations continue, Junior Cycle results finally come out to much trepidation, and then there is of course Halloween, where creativity gets it chance to raise its head and say 'hello there!'. Here's some of what we have gotten up to.
Thank you to the hundreds who attended our Open Evening, the staff who worked so hard to show how great our school is, and the more than one hundred students who gave up their time to help out on the night and act as ambassadors for their school.
What a fantastic way to start the mid-term break!
CMM Galway became a sea of ghosts and spooks, zombies and vampires, angels and devils, Fr. Teds and Dalmations as our students and staff let their creativity run amok and seriously put their best foot forward in an outstanding colourful display of costumes and make-up.
Huge thanks to Colette and the canteen staff for sponsoring prizes for the outstanding winners, to Ms. Margaret Lee for pulling it all together and to everyone who participated in the fun and the craic. Just look at those photos!
During October our CSPE classes have been learning about the origins of BHM, Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, Christine Buckley and Aretha Franklin to name just a few!

A huge congratulations to our
CMM Galway TY class of 2025 who were awarded their prestigious Gaisce awards
Gaisce - The President's Award is Ireland’s national youth award and is a personal development programme for young people aged 14-25. It is a direct challenge from the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, to all young people to dream big and fulfil their potential.
Gaisce provides a positive youth development programme that encourages and rewards young people to discover their passions and challenge themselves, positively impacting themselves and the world around them. The Award programme empowers participants to cultivate essential life skills and foster a sense of responsibility and resilience through a nationally and internationally recognised non-formal education framework. The programme also fosters a sense of community involvement, with all participants giving back to their community via their chosen volunteer activity.
There was a lot of nervous excitement around the College as our 2025 JC students awaited the outcome of their labours last June. Some hoped for a scatter of 'Distinctions' and 'Higher Merits', while others hoped to Achieve and pass everything, and the TYS just hoped they'd make it back from Delphi in time to join in the fun! But, no matter what outcome was expected the excitement was palpable, and those outcomes fantastic. Some excellent results today from some excellent students...a huge well done to each and every one of them.
Thank you so much to Emmet Major and Garda Joe Quinn from the Stay Sober Stay Safe campaign for their very important and informative session delivered to all 5th year and TY students.
It is so valuable to be aware of how to take care of ourselves and each other on those nights out.
