We were delighted to have HOPE CEO International Operations, Maura Lennon, present the work of HOPE to the LCVP students. The Hope Foundation is a registered charity working with street-connected and slum-dwelling children in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta), India. working to free children and poor families from lives of pain, abuse, poverty and darkness.
Our staff and students provided a very warm welcome and were engaged in learning about the work of HOPE, and how they could help to support our awareness and fundraising efforts.HOPE itself posted that "it is very grateful to the wider school community of Coláiste Muire Máthair and in particular to LCVP teacher Sharon Loughnane , for their sustained interest in, and support to HOPE"
We would like to say a huge thank you to Fr Martin Whelan for our beautiful opening school Mass. His homily was a perfect start to our new school year and it really resonated with everyone. We are so grateful for his presence and his inspiring words. Well done also to our school choir for their lovely singing during the ceremony
It was especially meaningful to hear the students' prayers for God’s guidance, strength and wisdom as we face new challenges and opportunities. The seniors also prayed for our new first year students as they begin this exciting new chapter. It was a wonderful way to start the academic year!
Our students had a great time celebrating European Languages Day with games and quizzes.Well done to their teachers for organising the events and leading the fun!
#europeanlanguagesday.
We are delighted to announce our Head Prefects for 2025-26 and wish them great success in their roles as ambassadors for Coláiste Muire Máthair this school year. Huge congratulations to Head Boy Ali Amirouche and his deputy Evan Smith, and to Head Girl Julia Matysik and her deputy Ada Axenti. These four students have demonstrated exemplary dedication to our school, and are outstanding role models for all our students.

This month we celebrated SNA Appreciation Day. We have an amazing group of SNA's who work tirelessly with our students. Without them, there are many children who would never be able to attend secondary school, would be at risk of early school leaving or simply be unable to manage the day. Some days they spread themselves so thin they are almost see through!
A massive thank you to each and every one of them
A big thank you to
Boston Scientific Galway for sponsoring CMMG for the upcoming VEX Robotics competition in
Atlantic Technological University. Our competitors have started building and coding their robot and are eagerly anticipating their first competition day in November.
We are delighted that
Boston Scientific have come on board to help us participate as these
VEX Robotics competitions foster skills natural to engineers and scientists and capitalize on the motivational effects of competitions and robotics to help all students create an identity as a STEM learner. They expose students to valuable soft skills like communication, collaboration and time-management in a fun and authentic way, preparing students to become future innovators with 95% of participants reporting an increased interest in STEM subject areas and pursuing STEM-related careers.
Exciting times ahead for our students!
"Your school needs you!" Miss Sammon 's 3rd Year CSPE class has created some inspirational posters for our upcoming Student Council elections this October. Well done everyone, should get the ball rolling as election fever creeps in!

Thank you to the
Youth Work Ireland Westside for hosting the launch of Comhairle na nOg's safety survey report onFriday 12th of September.
The report was launched by the Mayor of Galway City,
Cllr. Mike Cubbard, and attended by our student representatives Lucy, Rachel , Conor and Divine
Our sixth year students undertook a pilgrimage to Máméan and visited Kylemore Abbey. Despite the inclement weather, the students demonstrated remarkable resilience and made the most of the experience
Miss Sammon's 5th Year Art class recently enjoyed a visit to the current Galway Arts Centre exhibition "The Air We Share". This project is part of the Creative Climate Action Initiative using art, science and storytelling to build awareness around air quality, health, and climate.
This exhibition visit forms part of the student's current textile project, developed in conjunction with artist Karena Ryan, who is one of the exhibiting artists.
Thank you so much to the Galway Arts Centre and guide Conor Burke for making us feel so welcome, and for answering all of the student's questions.
Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal 2025

We are delighted to once again take part in the Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal! This worthwhile project brings joy to thousands of children affected by poverty this Christmas

Students, families, and staff are invited to get involved by filling a shoebox with small gifts such as:

Toys (dolls, balls, games, teddies)

School supplies (copybooks, colouring books, pencils, colours)

Clothing & accessories (hat, scarf, gloves, socks)

Hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, hairbrush)
As always, we are so happy to accept any donation, large or small, of any of these individual items.

Please do not include food, liquids, sharp objects, or anything breakable.

Deadline for donations: Friday, 24th October 2025
All shoeboxes/items must be dropped into the school by this date to ensure they can be delivered in time for Christmas.
Every year we are blown away by the increased support for this special cause.
Together, we can help make Christmas extra special for children who need it most.

Students in Ms. Gallagher’s 1st year History class tried their hand at archaeology today with a very exciting (and tasty!) cookie excavation. They learned how artefacts are uncovered with serious care using only toothpicks to remove the chocolate chips! We have a few budding archaeologists in the making

We were delighted to welcome five of our outstanding LC 2025 students back to their Alma Mater, as they arrived in to collect their official LC transcripts before heading off on their new chosen paths. Pictured alongside College principal Claire Mac Loughlin are Nathan Gbinigie, Nara Coll, Oskar Tomczakowski, Jean Harlamovs and Ruihan Wu
Between them, these five young men alone amassed almost 3000 CAO points, but, as well as their academic prowess, it was their contribution to the school during their time here that helped them enjoy their lives as secondary students and find that balance between work and play that contributes so much to healthy living.
Nathan, during his time at
CMM Galway, won multiple medals, including an All-Ireland, at Basketball, eventually winning caps, many as captain, with Irish underage teams. Despite being a valued member of the College Junior and Senior Science Quiz teams Nathan has chosen to study Accounting at UG. Nara, an established member of the Irish Water Polo team and School Soccer goalkeeper will be plying his trade as a Computer Science student in UG.
Another outstanding Science Quiz team member, Oskar represented the school at Cross Country and has Connacht medals in Athletics, and he'll be using his 600+ points tally to study Biomedical Science also at UG. Jean is another lad heading down a similar route, as he embarks on a Biomedical Engineering degree, also at UG. While in CMMG he was very involved, representing us at the BT Young Scientist in Dublin, at SciFest, as a member of the Junior and Senior Science Quiz teams, on the various Soccer teams and as an All-Ireland winning basketballer.
Ruihan was the outstanding student of his year, and his 625 point haul has guaranteed him a place on Trinity College Dublin's prestigious Medicine programme. Ruihan, despite his obvious academic flair, learned to balance things brilliantly and had a very fulfilling time while at CMMG, participating twice at the BT Young Science Exhibition, at Scifest, as a member of the Junior and Senior Science and Mathematics teams. He was also a perennial performer at the CMM's Got Talent competition, and his mastery of the piano and flute was much treasured by the College choir. To top it all he is an accomplished tennis player and represented his school multiple times at badminton.
Five students who learned to mix study and fun, who participated and got the most out of their time in our school, who developed friendships that they will treasure, and who will be remembered around the corridors and classrooms.
Ultimately, we recognise that these are only a small percentage of the class of 2025, and that there are many more students with similar pedigrees and experiences with us in CMMG who are now heading off on their chosen paths. We wish every single one of them the very best of luck. We always love hearing how our past students are getting on so don't be a stranger and feel free to drop by anytime!
Here's hoping our colleagues get the positive outcome of pension parity and fair treatment they so richly deserve. Our school, nor any school, cannot function without the work our wonderful administration staff do every day. You have the support of everyone in the
CMM Galway community.

It was a busy summer for some of our teachers and students as they embarked on a journey of spiritual renewal and discovery on a unique pilgrimage to Italy as part of the Jubilee Year 2025.
Leaving Certificate students Logan Green and Robert Walshe O'Connell, along with their teachers Ms. Lauren Carney and Ms. Jackie Dockery, and College Chaplain Fr. Martin Whelan joined a group of 80 young Catholics from
Diocese of Galway, Kilmacduagh & Kilfenora, and Clonfert, Elphin and Achonry dioceses for a week of prayer and Eucharistic celebration.
The photos below give a detailed account of the trip with accompanying photographs.
A full report of the pilgrimage can be obtained through this link.
