Our Basketball season 2022-23 is in full swing with many teams, both boys and girls involved in regular action. Our canteen boss Colette Cawley are our main sponsors and Collette's support has been invaluable in helping us to get our identity as CMMG basketballers.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Our Senior and U-16 Boy's teams, under the watchful eye of coaches Seán Og De Paor and Michael Murphy have been peerless so far. They have qualified for the Western Region League finals and following victory over Sligo Grammar (64-37) and St. Mary's CBS Belfast (83-41) will now face Moyle Park College in the All-Ireland Schools Cup semi-final in December. Meanwhile, our U-16 team face up to St. Benildus College Dublin in their Schools Cup Quarter Final.
Both our senior and U-16 teams were successful in wining their respective Western league divisions, with both overcoming St. Flannan's College Ennis in the finals. Well done to both.

Following a titanic tussle at the National Basketball arena our U-19 team narrowly lost out to Moyle Park Clondalkin in the National Cup semi-final. Having conceded 26 points in a very sluggish opening quarter we were unable to bridge the gap. However, we fought back brilliantly and with less than a minute on the clock led by a single point. However, a final missed effort to seal the victory proved costly, as Moyle Park manouevred two free throws which they promptly dispatched just as the final seconds ticked down. It was a heartbreaking 52-51 defeat, and definitely one we left behind us.
However, the U-16s showed no such concerns as they readily defeated St. Mary's CBS Belfast to progress to the All-Ireland Final in January.
GIRLS' BASKETBALL
Rowena Kelly and Colin McCaul have been working with the girls basketball and have been making some great progress with many girls who are only just learning their sport. They have been very active and enthusiastic and their season highlight was a victory over Taylor's Hill, the first ever for a CMMG girls basketball team. they will no doubt continue to improve. and the future looks bright going forward.
